Saturday, Kyle Busch won the Xfinity race (Again), and Daniel Suarez finished in 2nd. Erik Jones took a minor hit late in the race, but due to attrition, the impact wasn’t devastating.
Shoutouts go to JJ Yeley for getting his second top ten in three races, Matt Dibenedetto for finishing 11th in a pretty much underfunded car (even though he’s a Cup driver, he’s not one that constantly races in the lower series), and Ross Chastain for finishing in 13th despite getting his teammate’s shock absorber wedge in the front of his car.
A special shoutout goes to the underdog Blake Koch, who finished in 9th place, and currently sits in 3rd place in the standings, 5 points to the good. Yes, you read that correctly. I don’t know what is going to happen over the next two races, but if they continue to stay consistent as they have been this year, they very well could sneak into the final round, and who knows what will happen from there.
And today, Kevin Harvick won the Cup race, joining Jimmie Johnson in the Round of 8. The drivers that took the biggest hits today were Brad Keselowski who wrecked late, finishing 38th after running in the top 10 and Chase Elliott who got in the wall a few times today, and finished 32nd. At this point, unless chaos happens at Talladega next week, Chase Elliott will have to win to get in.
Special shout outs go to:
Austin Dillon who finished 6th. He’s in a tie for the 8th and final transfer spot, and he finished in the top 5 in May despite a damaged car.
Alex Bowman who finished 7th. It’s good to see him finally close the deal and get a top 10 finish. Hopefully he finds a ride for next year.
AJ Allmendinger who finished 8th. He basically had a quiet day and ran near the front the entire race.
